Stained Glass Class & More!

Join Capital Confectioners’ own, Kimberly Chapman, to learn how everything you ever wanted to know about working with gummy. Kimberly is an award winning sugar artist who slaps sugar around and makes it do her bidding. For this year’s That Takes the Cake, Sugar Art Show & Cake Competition in Austin, Tx, Kimberly created one of the most stunning sugar art pieces I’ve ever seen, a stained glass Lady of Shallot.  Kimberly will be teaching her techniques at Amazing Kakes of Austin coming up on June 19th, 2012.

Details can be found by following this link: Kimberly’s Classes

I also want to mention that Kimberly has recently completed a book on her gummy techniques, which can be downloaded here:

We’re heading to Birmingham, England

Perhaps the greatest cake show on earth, Cake International, is held at NEC in Birmingham, England. Cake International is the world’s biggest consumer show for sugarcraft and cake decorating! There will be vendors from around the world and many famous cake artists such as Lorraine McKay, Debbie Brown, Stephen Bennison, just to name a few.  Choose from the latest range of cake decoration products and accessories and stimulate your creative ideas.  Learn all the latest techniques from professional demonstrators who will be keen to share their knowledge and expertise with you.

With excellent workshops, exciting displays and live competitions – a visit to the show is a must for everyone who enjoys sugarcraft and cake decorating.

I’ve booked a gorgeous little townhouse with 10 rooms and an adjoining cottage with two additional rooms. I’m also going to rent a couple of vans to cart us around. If you’d like to join us be sure to sign up soon before all the rooms are taken!

Book now! As always, click on the titles for more details.

Custom Class with Mike McCarey

My friend Kimberly and I refer to Mike McCarey as “The God of Cake”.  There is good reason for that title. Mike McCarey can make anything in cake, and I do mean anything. While he was in Austin, Tx, for our annual cake show he told me about a 3-Day workshop he’s holding in his studio in Redmond, Wa, in which you’ll be able to make the cake of your dreams with Mike along to help you design and execute every aspect. That’s like getting Picasso to help you with the painting of your dreams.  If you’re a cake artist who wants to up your game, this is the class for you. Here are some details:

When: May 19-21, 2012
Where: Mike McCarey’s Studio, Redmond, Wa
Cost: $2000

This class is limited to 6 students and I understand that the May class has only one or two spots left. You will create your project from start to finish from finding resource materials to creating patterns to building your stand and executing the final product. Mike will be with you every step of the way. As if that weren’t enough, you’ll get to watch as the other 5 students build their dream cakes. Ohhh, to be a fly on the wall!
